"Students explain why located data or information was selected" (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2014).
Description: This web-based interactive tutorial that teaches students the skills they need to conduct and evaluate their use of online search engines.
Rationale: Using Internet search engines effectively is a challenging skill that requires students to not only use correct search terms, but also be able to select appropriate results to follow up and then evaluate the information provided (Debowski, 2001). Welcome to the Web: Searching Online (Warner, 2015) is a highly effective web-based tool for use when teaching students how to select web results that are most useful to them when conducting searches using search engines. Students can complete the tutorial and then evaluate the quality of the search result examples provided for each search term.
